Some time ago, on holiday I came across a cemetary which had a marble 'wall' where coffins are slid into a rectangular space four or five coffins high, like a big filing cabinet , and then sealed with stone bearing an engraved plaque. Marilyn Monroe's grave is in this style. I like the idea of a wall of death, of what it represents and the grid formation as a visual device. These paintings are an ongoing riff on this theme.
